Program Overview

The Junior Summer Creative Camp is a nature-based, experiential learning program designed for teenagers aged 12–18, combining outdoor survival skills, environmental awareness, creative arts, and ethical storytelling.

Participants may choose:

  • One 1-week module

  • Two modules

  • Or the full 4-week immersive experience

The program is hosted across Son Tra Peninsula, Da Nang coastline, and C4C/VEN facilities, with strict safeguarding, trained facilitators, and age-appropriate pedagogy.

OPTION 1 – WEEK 1
TO THE FOREST: Survival, Nature & Eco-Art

​Location: Son Tra Peninsula + VEN/C4C House
 

Age Group: 12–18


Physical Level: Moderate (guided hikes, no extreme trekking)

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand forest ecosystems and biodiversity

  • Build basic survival literacy

  • Develop situational awareness and respect for wildlife

  • Translate nature experience into creative expression

Key Activities:

Forest Literacy & Survival

  • Reading the sun, moon, wind, and terrain

  • Finding and filtering natural water sources

  • Basic shelter concepts and safety signaling

  • Wildlife awareness: snakes, insects, primates (no interaction, safety-first)

  • Risk awareness and decision-making in nature

 

Creative Output – Eco Printing:

  • Introduction to eco printing using leaves, bark, natural pigments

  • Textile or paper-based eco-art creation

  • Reflection through nature journaling

 

Final Output:

  • Eco-printed artworks

  • Mini exhibition at VEN/C4C House (open to parents & community)

OPTION 2 – WEEK 2

TO THE SEA: Water Safety, Freediving & Ocean Art

 

Location: Da Nang beaches & nearby rivers
Age Group: 12–18
Requirement: Basic swimming ability (assessment on Day 1)

 

Learning Objectives:

  • Build confidence in open water

  • Understand ocean dynamics and risk

  • Learn self-rescue and water safety

  • Develop creative relationships with marine materials

 

Key Activities:

Water Safety & Open-Water Skills

  • Understanding currents, tides, and “strange water flows”

  • How to react when pulled by rip currents

  • Self-rescue techniques and calm-breathing

  • Introduction to freediving principles (breathing, equalization, safety buddy system)

  • Swimming in non-pool environments (sea, river) under supervision

 

Creative Output – Ocean Art:

  • Ethical collection of seashells, sand, drift materials

  • Ocean-inspired visual art (sand painting, shell mosaics, mixed media)

  • Environmental discussion on marine protection

 

Final Output:

  • Ocean-themed artworks

  • Group reflection on human–sea relationships

OPTION 3 – WEEKS 3–4

FILM THE WILD: Youth Filmmaking & Storytelling (VEN Program)

Location: Field sites + VEN production space
Age Group: 13–18
Duration: 2 weeks (core VEN junior filmmaking track)

 

Learning Objectives

  • Learn ethical storytelling and consent

  • Develop visual literacy and narrative thinking

  • Practice teamwork, observation, and patience

  • Produce a short, meaningful film

 

Core Curriculum (Recovered VEN Framework):

  • Story discovery: people, wildlife, culture, environment

  • Camera basics: framing, movement, light

  • Sound recording & interviews (age-appropriate)

  • Ethics in filming people, animals, and communities

  • Editing basics and storytelling structure

  • Reflection: “What story matters and why?”

 

Final Output:

  • Short documentary or visual story (individual or small group)

  • Public screening at VEN/C4C House

  • Participation certificate

SAFEGUARDING & WELLBEING (CRITICAL FOR JUNIORS)

  • Age-segmented groups (12–14 / 15–18 where needed)

  • Small group: 8 - 16

  • Clear parental consent & medical forms

  • Trained facilitators + water/forest safety professionals

  • Daily check-ins and reflection circles

  • No unsupervised free time in field locations

  • Trauma-informed and youth-centered facilitation
