This 2-week immersive experience equips volunteers with the skills to become conservation storytellers while contributing to wildlife education and biodiversity awareness.
Volunteers will learn:
-
Wildlife Photography Theory & Conservation Storytelling – ethical photography practices, conservation messaging, and responsible wildlife engagement.

Hands-on Field Experience - Photography four key groups of wildlife:
-
Primate & Terrestrial Mammals – douc langurs, macaques, and other monkeys
-
Insects & Small Creatures - capturing macro shots of Vietnam’s incredible insect diversity
-
Marine Life - underwater filming of coral reefs, seagrass habitats, and ocean biodiversity
-
Birds - documenting bird behaviors, flight patterns, and their role in the ecosystem
-
Editing & Post-Production – creating a short conservation documentary
By the end of the program, volunteers will produce a wildlife short photo presentation that will be added to Danang’s Biodiversity Data Page and contribute to local educational programs.
Program Schedule: 1st Week Filming Techniques & Guided Fieldwork
Day 1: Arrival & Welcome
📌 Location: Danang

Volunteers arrive and are welcomed by VEN staff.

Transfer to VEN’s Volunteer House & rest.

Evening: Welcome dinner & cultural introduction with the team.
Day 2: Orientation & Theory
📌 Location: VEN Training Center & Son Tra Nature Reserve
The only theory session in the program. This day covers:
-
Meet & Greet with the VEN Team – introduction to all VEN staff involved in the volunteers' experience.
-
Program Overview & Safety Guidelines – expectations, ethical wildlife filming, and responsible engagement.
-
Wildlife Filming Theory – storytelling techniques, camera settings, and principles of conservation filmmaking.
-
Understanding Biodiversity Threats in Vietnam – an overview of key environmental issues
-
Screening & Discussion – impact-driven wildlife documentaries (Our Planet, The Ivory Game, A Tale of Phu Quoc)
Evening: Rest & prepare for field expeditions.
Day 3-6: Camera Training & Story Development
📌 Location: VEN Training Center & Son Tra Nature Reserve

DSLR, mirrorless & cinema camera operations

Fiel trip and specialised training for filming four key wildlife groups:

Primates and Monkeys: best angles, safe distances, and natural behaviors
-
Insects and Macro Filming: Capturing tiny details
-
Birds and Flight Tracking: Setting up long-lens shots and anticipating movements
-
Marine Life and Underwater Filming: Introduction to marine ecosystems and dive filming techniques

Story development for the short documentary

Creating a short script and shot list to be prepared for filming
Program Schedule: 2nd week Filming and Post-production
Day 7-9: Filming days
📌 Location: Various Wildlife Hotspots (Son Tra, My Khe Beach, or Local Reserves)

Volunteers spend time filming their wildlife projects.

VEN mentors available for support & guidance.
Day 10-14: Editing, Screening and Certification
📌 Location: VEN Training Center

Editing & Post-Production Workshop – cutting, color grading, sound, and narration.

Final Film Screening & Certification Ceremony – showcase of completed films.

Celebration Dinner & Closing Remarks
Final Message: Your journey as a conservation storyteller begins now—keep filming, keep sharing, and keep making an impact!
Accommodation & Training Facilities
🏡 VEN Volunteer House:
-
Volunteers stay at the VEN & C4C Volunteer House, a welcoming community space.
-
The VEN office & training center is located on the first floor.
-
Volunteers share the house with participants from other VEN and Catalyst for Change (C4C) programs,
-
allowing for cultural exchange.
-
Enjoy evenings at the beach, home-cooked meals, and explore Danang!
Optional Volunteer Engagement Activities
In addition to the wildlife photography program, volunteers can join various conservation and community events:
-
Beach Clean-Ups – protect marine biodiversity.
-
Wildlife Awareness Campaigns – educate tourists on ethical interactions with wildlife.
-
Social Impact Activities by Catalyst for Change (C4C) – including Hope Express, Voices of Resilience, Global Connect, Cooking Class, etc.
These activities are optional, and volunteers can participate in any event happening during their stay.
Important Notes
⚠️ Schedule may change based on weather conditions and volunteer health.

Volunteer Requirements

Passion for wildlife, filmmaking, and conservation.

Should bring a camera if they have one (DSLR, mirrorless, action camera, or high-quality smartphone).
-
Basic knowledge of photography & video recording is a plus.
-
Respect for ethical wildlife filming & conservation values.
-
Ability to hike and carry filming equipment in the field.
