VEN SEA RESCUE TRAINING PROGRAM (2 weeks)

Accommodation, meals, certified training, field practice, equipment use during training, and certification support.

This 2-week immersive sea rescue experience equips volunteers with Australian-standard surf safety, CPR, and emergency response skills, while actively contributing to public beach safety in Đà Nẵng.

Volunteers will learn:

  • Ocean Safety & Rescue Theory – Surf safety principles, rescue ethics, emergency response protocols, and responsible public safety engagement in coastal environments.

  • Hands-on Field Experience – Training Across Key Rescue Areas - Participants train across multiple real-world beach safety disciplines:

  1. Surf Zone Safety – wave formation, tides, rip currents, and hazard assessment

  2. Self-Survival Skills – managing panic, rip current escape, and personal safety

  3. First Response & CPR – DRSABCD, AED use, recovery positions, and manikin drills

  4. Rescue Communication – radio use, flag systems, scanning techniques, and teamwork

  5. Live Beach Operations – assisting professional beach safety teams during patrols and simulations

By the end of the program, volunteers will complete certified surf safety and CPR training, gain real-world beach rescue exposure, and receive official certification recognizing their participation and skills.

Program Schedule: 1st Week - Certified Training & Core Skills

Day 1: Arrival & Welcome

📌 Location: Danang

  • Arrival and welcome by the VEN team

  • Transfer to the VEN Volunteer House & rest

  • Evening: Welcome dinner & cultural introduction with the team.

Day 2: Orientation & Rescue Theory

📌 Location: VEN Training Center 

The only theory session in the program. This day covers:

  • Meet & Greet with the VEN team and training partners

  • Program goals, safety guidelines & rescue ethics

  • Introduction to surf rescue principles and public safety responsibility

  • Overview of coastal risks and ocean hazards in Vietnam

Day 3-6: Surf Safety & First Response Training

📌 Location: Da Nang beaches

Led by Surf Life Saving Vietnam, participants receive structured training in:

  • Wave dynamics, tides, and rip current identification

  • Beach hazard ratings and marine creature safety

  • Self-survival techniques in surf environments

  • CPR theory & practice, AED use, recovery positions

  • Radio communication, rescue coordination & team rescue theory

Day 7: Weekend Break

Program Schedule: 2nd week - Real-World Beach Practice

Day 8–11: Live Beach Safety Experience

📌  Location: Location: Son Tra Beaches

Working alongside the Son Tra Beaches Management Board, volunteers engage in:

  • Beach patrol observation and safety zone setup

  • Flag systems, scanning techniques & alert simulations

  • Shallow-water assistance drills

  • Emergency response teamwork in active public beach settings

Day 12: Review, Reflection & Certification

📌 Location: VEN Training Center

  • Final review and feedback session

  • Certification ceremony

  • Reflection circle & program closing

Accommodation & Training Facilities

🏡 VEN Volunteer House:

  • Volunteers stay at the VEN & C4C Volunteer House, a welcoming community space.

  • The VEN office & training center is located on the first floor.

  • Volunteers share the house with participants from other VEN and Catalyst for Change (C4C) programs,

  • allowing for cultural exchange.

  • Enjoy evenings at the beach, home-cooked meals, and explore Danang!

Optional Volunteer Engagement Activities

In addition to the wildlife photography program, volunteers can join various conservation and community events:

  • Beach Clean-Ups – protect marine biodiversity.

  • Wildlife Awareness Campaigns – educate tourists on ethical interactions with wildlife.

  • Social Impact Activities by Catalyst for Change (C4C) – including Hope Express, Voices of Resilience, Global Connect, Cooking Class, etc.

These activities are optional, and volunteers can participate in any event happening during their stay.

Important Notes

  • Schedule may change depending on weather and sea conditions

  • Ocean training is physically demanding and requires focus and teamwork

  • All activities follow strict safety and professional supervision standards

  • Physically fit for swimming, walking, and outdoor activity

  • Willingness to follow safety protocols and rescue ethics

  • No prior rescue experience required
